Personal Styling: Sunday Best

Hello again everyone! (Insert awkward joke here as I haven’t written a blog post in over a year)

So, you might be wondering why after such a long time I’ve decided to come back to blogging? Well, a few weeks ago I completed a short course at the Fashion Retail Academy in Personal Styling and it’s given me a new burst of inspiration. Personal styling is something I’ve always been interested in (and something I’ve always thought I’d be good at!) and so I’m now going to be using my blog not only to showcase my personal style but also how I’ve been styling other people.

My first client has of course been my mother – I like to think I’ve been styling her for years but this is probably the first time I’ve done it in a more professional sense. My first task was to help my Mum create her holiday wardrobe for her upcoming trip to Jamaica. Instead of saying “No Mum you can’t wear that”, I’ve given her holiday wardrobe a complete refresh; adding new pieces, donating the ones that have been probably been in the suitcase for too long and creating mood boards for some of the outfits she’s taking.

My first mood board is for her “Sunday Best” outfit which she’ll being wearing on Easter Sunday at my Grandparents’ church. Now of course this is not just any Sunday – this is Easter Sunday and these ladies certainly like to dress up. Initially my Mum was going to wear this silver dress with a black jacket and black heels which, yes, it would be nice but that’s not good enough for me so out came the pink! I knew that my Mum already had a pink jacket and shoes in her wardrobe and I just felt that being in a country as vibrant as Jamaica you need to wear as many bright colours as possible.

So here’s the look: as said before I’ve paired this silver dress with the pink jacket and pink shoes. I’ve also added a short statement necklace, again in a bright colour, but then a simpler clutch bag so as not to go too over the top. All these pieces are ones I’ve found online and very similar to the ones my Mum has, which allowed us to better visualise the outfit.

Also when it comes to holiday packing you want to get as much out of every piece as possible so instead of wearing a completely different outfit every single day some pieces should be worn again. This I’ve done with the jacket and heels and paired them with white jeans and a gold sparkly top to create look for a nice dinner or cocktails.

Let me know what you think of these looks, and stay tuned for two more glimpses of my Mum’s new holiday wardrobe.

If you need any styling tips for an event or holiday, or are in need of a wardrobe edit for the summer do let me know as I’m happy to help!
