Dinner at the top of the world

Now I’ve never been one for a fancy dinner, especially the kind, as one chef put it, where there’s “nothing on the plate and everything on the bill”. I’ve had a few in my lifetime but almost none seem to live up the hefty bill at the end of the night. However, last week I thought I’d give fine dining another try, and so I ended up booking a table for two at the Oblix lounge in the Shard…and let me tell you, it did not disappoint.

I’d eaten in the Shard previously, but at Hutong – now this was a few years back, but considering the prices on the menu I’d have been better off ordering from my local Chinese takeaway. My experience at Oblix though was so much on another level that I just had to share it with you guys.

When we arrived we were a tad early for our 6pm table, so we had a drink at the bar. I ordered the “Last Minute Sunburn” cocktail and to put it simply: it’s one of the best I’ve ever had.

We were then quite quickly showed to our table, and I almost passed when seeing our seats, which were directly next to the window. Now before I continue I have to admit that my booking was a last minute one and so I wasn’t able to get a table in the restaurant, but rather the lounge, a room with lower tables and softer chairs but city views nonetheless. Admittedly I wasn’t expecting much from our table, but my expectations were completely surpassed as we ended up with the best seats in the house! I don’t know whether it was because our table was booked early in the evening or whether it was just luck, but I must say I was a very happy bunny.

And the experience just went up and up from then on – from the insanely good food, impeccable service and the view of the sunset over the London skyline, I couldn’t have asked for a better night. Even when our two hours were up (most fancy restaurant tables have a time limit) we were offered another table closer to the bar where we could continue our evening. Sadly, my new 7-4 work hours have turned me into a granny so I was happy to be heading home, but I was very impressed that we were offered another table and not made to stand by the bar.

Another highlight of the evening had to be having the opportunity to finally wear one of the more boujee dresses in my wardrobe. This Karen Millen dress definitely had me feeling a little bit like Annalise Keating from How to Get Away with Murder, so I will be finding more excuses to wear this dress and others I have like it more often!

What I'm Wearing: Karen Millen Dress, Karen Millen Bag, Biba Heels, Reserved Jacket, H&M Necklace
