This is my third and final blog post giving you an insight into how I styled my mum for her holiday. And what is the most important piece needed for every beach holiday: the swimwear! For my mum, I decided to go for a new swimsuit to give her wardrobe a bit of a refresh and she had some very specific criteria: it had to have a low back and feature some kind of fun print. This turned out to be a more difficult task that I had first thought but finally I managed to find a beautiful Ted Baker swimsuit that ticked all the boxes.
What was strange about this particular swimsuit however was that initially I could only find it on the John Lewis website and not on the actual Ted Baker website. We were very relaxed about the situation however and planned to order it online. When we first saw it online the largest and the smallest size were sold out but we saw no reason to panic and didn’t buy it straight away. Fast forward a few days later and the size we wanted had gone too! I frantically called up John Lewis asking them to put one in store on hold whilst I searched the internet trying to find it again. I was surprised to see that John Lewis was the only major department store to be selling the particular style however after an extensive search it appeared on the Very website and we, of course, bought it straight away.
It arrived very promptly and looked as gorgeous in real life as it did on the website. The only downside to this particular style was that the straps aren’t adjustable so if you’re slightly pear-shaped, like my mum is, it is best to avoid styles like this or plan to have the pieces altered.
So here is the swimsuit styled for the perfect beach look: I’ve paired it with a short black kimono, while the rest of the accessories I’ve kept in relatively light nude colours. The beach bag and sandals are very simple so as not to detract from the bold swimsuit. As my mum is the kind of woman to be lounging by the pool as opposed to swimming in it I’ve added some simple gold jewellery to add a bit of glam to the look. And of course, no beach look is complete without a large sun hat, a pair of bold sunglasses and a cocktail in hand.
So if I had any advice to give at the end of my first experience of holiday styling it would be:
Make sure to include some bright colours as no holiday wardrobe is complete without them
Try to pack that can be worn in at least 2 or 3 outfits to save on space, and create mood boards to help you visualise your looks
Don’t always go by what others say about shopping on certain websites and make sure to try them for yourself, as long as there is a good refund policy if the rumours end up being true!
And if you see something online that has sold out in certain sizes, do not hesitate for too long as it won’t be long before that dream item fades away
I hope these tips will help you with any upcoming holiday shopping or packing you have and if you would like me to style you myself do not hesitate to contact me.
