So recently I’ve been having an issue with some of the trends I’ve seen this summer for footwear – I don’t know if it’s just me but seriously why are these styles so popular? I thought I’d do a bit of research hoping to find some alternatives and really there isn’t a lot. So, excuse the rant that’s about to take place, but let me explain why I’m so confused about the popularity of some of the biggest shoe trends for SS17:

1. Mules
I first came across this trend when I saw these Gucci Princetown shoes that everyone was raving about. Now am I really the only person that looks at these shoes and thinks they’re ugly? They look like the sort of shoe that I can imagine a man in an old black and white movie whilst smoking a pipe in a robe in his library. I’ve seen them being worn by a lot of celebrities but I have yet to see anyone actually walking down the street in them in real life. Now this might just be a problem that I have but if I wear a shoe that doesn’t have something supporting me at the back they will just go flying off my feet and so I have to do that horrible thing where you curl your toes to try and grip the shoe which, as you can imagine, isn’t very comfortable.
2. Kitten Heels
Now I can’t say too many bad things about kitten heels because I actually used to own a pair…when I was twelve! So actually scratch that because in my opinion the only people who should be wearing kitten heels are little girls when they have to go to formal occasions but for obvious reasons can’t wear high heels yet. I can see and appreciate how people have styled them with outfits but again they just don’t look very comfortable or very nice.
3. V-Cut
This might just be me but whenever I see these shoes it always looks like that person’s feet have transformed into hooves. And to make matters worse this trend is often merged with the kitten heel trend to create some sort of nightmare hybrid shoe.
4. Slides
Sorry to repeat myself but how do these stay on your feet?! And also when did it become acceptable to leave the house with slippers on? I know that comfort is key right now in fashion, especially in the summer, but this is taking it a step too far.
5. Perspex Boots
Not only can I not believe that this is a trend but how on earth is it a trend for the summer? Whose grand idea was it that at the hottest time of the year we should wrap our feet up in plastic? I first saw these on a post on Buzzfeed where they showed what will obviously happen when your feet get hot in these. I will not show the picture on here but click the link below if you’re brave enough to see the horrific consequences of these shoes.
So rant over – I hope you can understand why I’m so despairing of the shoe trends for this summer and why I’ll probably be reusing shoes from previous years!
